Chris Kisby analyzes some tips which can give you a hand during the World Cup.

It really just can’t be said that the beautiful game is easy to predict.

Even though the top sides of the major leagues are available for the reason, on any week we as supporters, neutrals or backers are susceptible to jolt or freak final results. The English F.A Cup competition, for some unidentified reason, throws less likely results up in heavy numbers consequently it’s now ‘magical’ status.

International football does offer some liberation for the betting man nonetheless.

Now of course, it isn’t a free offer. Bookmakers present odds through cautiously when it comes to international football, but it is because, usually, outcomes of matches will be to a sizable degree easier to forecast than domestic ones.

It’s no secret that this standard of international football has sunk lately. As the incredible importance of club football competition has increased, the commitment of players to national teams just isn’t as powerful, specifically in the friendly matches which a lot of top managers feel are pointless – to a very extent they can be reluctant to put out their stars whatsoever.

The amount of work and drive amongst top players in national teams is lacking in friendly matches, since they are more worried about getting injured. This brings me about the first of several quick tips to make good profits from international football.

    1) In friendly matches between the world’s finest teams (e.g. top ten rank) bet for the draw.+

    2) Propagate bet on score lines if you find a specific gulf in class in between two sides in a very competitive match (e.g. Spain vs. Azerbaijan: select 4-0, 5-0 and 6-0 – going to be about 5/1 each)

    3) Home advantage is very important – it usually pays off to side with the home team even though they may be evenly matched ability wise with the opposition.

    4) Stick to world rankings closely. They are really based on a coefficient formula taken from previous results. It’s very unusual for any team 15 roughly places faraway from another to obtain virtually any favorable end result.

The announcement took the world of football by storm when it was released that Darren Bent had put in a transfer request to quite as Sunderland striker and join Aston Villa. While Midlands is struggling badly, it has tabled a proposal of 18 million which they are ready to raise up to 24 million if needed. Villa is at a critical condition where it can be kicked out of the Premier League anytime if Wolves gain on them. Villa is at 18th position with Wolves just 5 more goals away from them.

Instead of hoping that Gerard Houllier and his mates will make it through, Randy Lerner, the owner of Villa decided to ask him to identify a star performer. Houllier has picked up Bent for this task.

The 18million plus offer for England striker Bent is an immense display of support from the clubs American owner towards the man he appointed to replace Marin O’Neill in September. The bid for Bent comes just days after Villa completed the signing of Cameroon international midfielder Jean Makoun from Lyon for 6million. The club have also bid for Blackpool star Charlie Adam who is seen as an integral part of Blackpool’s impressive Premier League debut.

All the transfer activity should certainly reduce some stress for Gerard Houllier as well as motivate Aston Villa supporters and fans that things may take a turn for the better. It has raised the hackles of Martin O’Neill who was thought to have left due to financial constraints in Aston Villa for the transfer market. It can be assumed that either Lerner has had a change of mind with regards to his earlier miserly approach or has been forced to spend by necessity known the club’s critical condition in the Premier League.

Houllier has endured a nightmare start to his reign at Villa Park, seeing his team pick up just three wins in the 18 League games that he has been in control of and losing to arch rivals Birmingham City in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup. The poor form can be partly attributed to the fact that the team has been massively hampered by a succession of injuries and suspensions to a number of key players, most notably Emile Heskey and the club captain, Stiliyan Petrov. The former Liverpool manager has had no alternative but to field a raft of young and inexperienced players in the majority of games. Although the likes of Marc Albrighton, Nathan Delfounseo and Barry Bannan appear to have bright futures ahead of them, Houllier will not have wanted to rely so heavily on them and fellow youth products as much as he has been forced to in recent months.

Even when his big names have been fit, the biggest problem for the Frenchman has been scoring goals, emphasised by the records of his three most senior strikers. Only Emile Heskey has been able to find the back of the nest in the Premier League this campaign, while England international Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew have failed to score at all in league games. It is no wonder then that the Villains are willing to pay a premium price for one of the best goal scorers in the Premier League as they seek to remain a top flight team.

Despite the big names coming in, the only niggling worry in the mind of the Frenchman would be the need to score needed amount of goals knowing that the records of his three senior strikers may not be up to the mark. Emile Heskey just barely found his way back into the Premier League nest, while England stars Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew didn’t make it with zero score. No wonder then that Villa club is ready to spend a fortune on those players who can score goals in the Premier League. Villa intends to stay up as one of the top teams at every cost.

The most astonishing is the fact that Darren Bent left Sunderland who is on the 6th rank in the League and seems to be going ahead for qualifying for the European Football in 2011 to join not going anywhere Aston Villa. Money could be one of the reasons but it is hardly likely that he will be paid any more wages than already committed. Whatever the reason may be, it is true that Darren Bent’s 10 month stint with Sunderland is at an end. In other transfer news, Steven Pienaar is close to exiting Goodison Park with Everton agreeing for a fee with Tottenham Hotspur. Time will tell if he joins Spurs or Chelsea

For those who track the top football leagues, the name Darren Bent is readily recognizable. You can obtain information about the football drills, leagues and players online or through other media coverage.

The branding competition has been claimed by Adidas after their boots scored more goals in the South Africa World Cup than any other brand. Players sporting the new Adidas F50 Adizero scored a total 41 goals during the competition.

Their lucrative deal will allow one of their most successful tracks ‘fire’ to be used in the title sequences of every match over the next three years. If this was only a deal for the UK, it would still be incredibly valuable but the league plans to use the song on every game it shows in the 200 countries it broadcasts.

Competing with bitter rivals Nike, the company splashed over 400 million US dollars on the campaign which included designing and producing the controversial Jubilani ball. However Nike stole much of the attention at the last minute with their ‘write the future’ campaign which was viewed more than 15 million times on YouTube alone.

The campaign received particular buzz in the social media world, gaining hundreds of thousands of views on Youtube. The main video was of a tourist helicopter tour of South Africa, where they flew over one of the stadiums. Next to the stadium was a large collection of vehicles which, when positioned next to the stadium, created the love = football icon.

The band are no strangers to the world of football, earlier in 2010 singer Tom Meighan launched Umbro’s England World Cup Kit and their music is regularly used on TV, especially Match of The Day and Sky Sports.

Although Nike made the effort to sponsor individual high profile players, they unfortunately backed the wrong horse. Their ‘write the future’ ad was undoubtedly the most successful viral campaign but there was one thing Nike couldn’t control.

The campaign was undertaken by marketing agency Gloo who were given the difficult brief of dealing with the rigorous FIFA regulations whilst being up against sporting giants such as Nike, Adidas and Umbro, all of whom had key players sporting their own merchandise.

Puma have managed some endorsement success with their successful Puma King football boot. They narrowly missed out on producing the new Liverpool football shirt

Former representatives like John Terry have taken a back seat in the campaign, as Umbro attempt to shift attention from the World Cup disaster. Terry is currently thought to be in the early stages of renegotiating a contract with the sports giant.

Youngsters like Arsenal Women’s team player Jade Bailey star alongside more established players like Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott and goalie Joe Hart. At just 14 years old Jade is the youngest star of the advert. She is joined by the likes of Manchester City’s Adam Johnson who was recently elevated to the senior squad for England’s friendly against Mexico earlier this year.

But excitement is building around one young player in particular. 16 year old Eric Dier has is a rising star both at his Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and here in England where he says he is passionate about playing professionally. Sporting Lisbon had to fight off competition from Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham when offering him a professional contract in April this year. The young centre back is rated so highly that sponsors Umbro chose him as one of their faces of the future.

Umbro are believed to have changed their advertising tactics to deflect attention from England’s shocking defeat in South Africa. The design has been praised by Hart as “the best fitting England kit yet” but has not gone down well with England fans, who are angry that Umbro, who are owned by Nike, has launched a new kit after promising the previous one would be in use for at least another year.

Major sports store JJB Sports offer a great range of football apparel including Umbro Speciali and Liverpool Football Shirt

The choice of the world cup soccer ball is the result of careful analysis, lots of monitoring, plenty of testing and approval procedures. The fact that manufacturers have their soccer balls tested for guaranteed quality shows value for money and respect for customers.

The world cup soccer ball will be manufactured in thousands of copies and sold on the international market and all the products in such lines will meet the criteria necessary for receiving the FIFA Approved or FIFA Inspected logos. The pre-tested or pre-approved gear is also a rule followed by all professional soccer leagues whether in the outdoor or indoor categories.

Before the world cup soccer ball can be chosen, the standard procedure requires that several steps be undergone. Seven balls are submitted to FIFA to receive the Inspected status, or in case the application is for the FIFA Approved logo, then, ten samples are necessary. The tests are run at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research located in St. Gallen, Switzerland. The world cup soccer ball can only be chosen from the FIFA approved products, as the FIFA Inspected ones don’t have the same high standard quality. Besides such approvals, there is a less demanding one known as the International Matchball Standard, which can be granted by any of the seven European test institutes that work with FIFA.

A total of seven tests is necessary with the mention that the most peculiar examination that comes for the final approval is the one that makes the difference and decides for the ball that has the potential to become the world cup soccer ball. The seventh test checks the shooting features such as size and shape retention as well as the pressure change during the shoot. The only acceptable pressure loss level for the FIFA approved variant is 20% while for the FIFA Inspected standard there could be a 25% pressure loss as such.

The world cup soccer ball used at the 2008 Olympic Games was manufactured by Adidas, the official sports partner for the Beijing Games. An incredibly popular souvenir to many people, this Olympic world cup soccer ball had gold Chinese characters reading China. The competition for the choice of the next world cup soccer ball models continues and producers make incredible efforts to improve design and improve ball features continuous. New modern materials become an important part of the production, and superior features are constantly developed. Thus, the force in the kicking transfer, the flight accuracy, the waterproofness and many others should make any future world cup soccer ball special.

With the spectacle of the World Cup gone by many of us are left with a somewhat bitter taste and a jaded feeling of disbelief at our countries inability to deliver what was so concretely promised. What bitters the taste even further is that each of the players and our manager seem to come back home with a dismissive ignorance borne out of oversized paycheques and a secure prominence in their home squad.

Possibly the worst outcome for the England squad was the security of Fabio Capello’s contract after an abysmal display in South Africa, weeks before the tournament was due to commence Capello argued for a re-write of his contract that would see a secure multimillion pound job for several years. Now back in the UK he can sit back and relax safe with the knowledge that he will never realistically have to deliver anything again before the next tournament. In order to relinquish him from his contract the FA would have to pay out a figure in the region of 12 million pounds as well as the rest of his salary payments for the remainder of his contract.

This raises the question yet again of the ridiculous salaries of today’s footballers and the management staff. They might well be worth the money when they are scoring goals and lifting trophies but otherwise they are undeniably overpaid. Many have argued that the introduction of performance based contracts would act as the best possible incentive to any player or manager as their ‘hard earned’ cash would indeed need to be ‘hard earned’.

Nowadays, most players and managers could easily manage without a paycheque for some time before their fridges became bare and many would never go hungry thanks to lucrative sponsorship deals and endorsements, so why not give them a ‘no win no fee’ contract. Although the possibility of no paycheque is not realistic the clubs could offer a standard rate of pay for each team member with attractive bonuses for good performance, this would make sure every player on the pitch gave it their all and those on the bench would train even harder to get the chance to have a shot. A contract could even state that if a player or manager was simply not performing they could face the sack or get sold to another club.

The reality is that today’s football is plagued by a generation of who are more eager to chase gold rather than lift it. Contracts and salaries based on performance would have to be introduced across a whole league rather than one team and even that could see many players jumping ship to warmer shores and deeper pockets.

Many players make more in sponsorship by wearing some Puma football boots than donning their Chelsea Football Shirt.

Referee decisions have long caused controversy on and off the pitch and many argue that the introduction of technology to the decision making process would completely rule out any human error. In the recent world cup in South Africa there were numerous examples, particularly when England scored against Germany a goal that what was witnessed by millions but unfortunately not the ref. Many fans claim that had this goal been counted the unfortunate outcome would have been much different.

Broadcasts of football matches have included meticulously analysed replays which can clarify any decision made during the match in seconds; however these have only served for the purposes of entertainment and have no impact on the outcome of the game. By analysing existing camera angles, experts can determine the position of a ball at any time, position of players and even whether a tackle was actually a foul or not.

In rugby, referees have been using technology for many years to assist in making decisions. They take around 30 seconds to examine video footage and confer with other officials to ensure the correct ruling on a decision too difficult to make given the referee’s view and speed of the game. Since the introduction of technology, decisions made by officials in a rugby game have never been questioned or argued but this can also be put down to the discipline of rugby players in the first place.

There are also many examples of sophisticated technology that could speed up the decision making process by automatically indicating information to a referee. There are several prominent designs for precise goal line technology that consistently place microchips inside the centre of a ball and laser detection across the line. Relatively simple technology could determine the exact location of a ball on the pitch in relation to the goal and any of the players; this could also help determine whether a player is offside or out of bounds.

Despite the huge call for technology to be used on the pitch, every international institution has so far dismissed it and explored a variety of extra officials. International footballing body FIFA have so far dismissed it as an option but the UK’s FA is rumoured to begin talks with clubs at the beginning of October. Exploring technological possibilities would be welcomed by many players and particularly the fans that are known to hold grudges against bad decisions for decades.

Experts have said micro chips could easily be installed into a player’s Chelsea football shirt or Adidas football boots in order to track their position.

The Technological Future Of Football http://www.footballfansworld.net/2010/07/the-technological-future-of-football/ http://www.footballfansworld.net/2010/07/the-technological-future-of-football/#comments Sun, 25 Jul 2010 12:37:32 +0000 Tom Doerr http://www.footballfansworld.net/2010/07/the-technological-future-of-football/ Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]> With the four year gaps, the advancements in technology between one world cup and the next really show, this year almost every household has a supersize HD TV available, at that last world cup these were priced out of the range of most consumers. This year many pubs showed the games in 3D and this market is emerging as the next big trend with televisions, undoubtedly this will be the norm by the next world cup. This raises the question of what the future holds for the beautiful game, how will we enjoy it, how will they play it? There are a variety of theories that are perfectly plausible; the only question is how soon it will come. Here is a selection of theories of what football will be like in 2020.

    Holographs:

The obvious advancement of 3D viewing would be to go holographic; projecting a holograph of the game and players onto any coffee table or living room floor would give the illusion of almost being there. The same technology could be used to project the players in real time onto another pitch the other side of the world. This could allow stadium crowds to enjoy the game all over the world and get that real match experience. The same effect could also be achieved with the use of augmented reality, the reality will probably whichever one becomes the cheapest and most effective.

    Crowd-Interface:

With technology becoming cheaper it is likely that every seat in the stadium would be fitted with its own touch screen computer offering replays, stats, food, merchandise and more importantly; advertising. The only factor for this being worth while is advertising as it’s likely that every spectator will have access to the rest on their smartphone, it’s a reality now so things can only get better.

    Microchip Managers:

Fortunately for the high paid managers of today’s game, their job will become easier. They won’t just have to rely on instincts but instead use technology and even artificial intelligence to make decisions. Intelligent software could track and monitor a player’s progress within a game and across a season to deliver vital stats on their fitness and potential performance in a game; this could help a manager decide who to keep on the bench and who to bring on in the dying minutes. Emotional monitoring systems currently in use in airports and public places could determine which players were getting aggravated and risked getting sent off or who needs encouraging. Analysing data and cross referencing it with that of an opposing team could allow a manager to choose players best suited against the other team, for example a stronger defence or strikers who have experience with a particular goalkeeper. Although such information is only factual it could provide a valuable back up to the manager while still allowing them
    to give the human touch.

    Cyber-Pitch:

Human error and a history of bad decisions have plagued the profession of refereeing since football began and so the argument for pitch technology is very much alive. The technology is available but governing bodies are reluctant to remove the human element from the game despite the controversy it is known to cause. A series of microchips, GPS data and infra-red technology could determine everything from the exact location of the ball, the players and the pitch in order to accurately call a throw in, position a free kick and mark our 10 yards. This could be virtual information available only to the ref or projected visually onto the pitch.

    Referee’s Little Helpers:

Kits, boots and balls fitted with impact sensitive chips could help the ref determine if a tackle was a foul and expose diving players; the same technology could also pinpoint the location of a free kick and assist on the decision of giving a card. Linesmen are likely to be replaced by technology as it is relatively simple to determine the position of players and the ball with lasers and camera replays using today’s technology.

    Communication:

Referees currently communicate with officials using blutooth headsets to avoid holding up the game with conferring on decisions. Using this technology, players could wirelessly communicate with managers and each other, altering tactics and giving orders on the go.

    Nano-Kits:

Nanotechnology would be yet another high-tech addition to the kits of the players, helping to heal minor scrapes with nutrient releasing technology and also help avoid muscle fatigue and cramp. The same shirts could also offer alternating colours or patterns depending on changing light conditions and even virtual sponsor messages. This could be used to scroll through advertising messages like billboards at a side of a pitch thus increasing ad revenue.

    Super Players:

Athlete training would be infinitely advanced by technology; intelligent systems could develop a bespoke training regime depending on an individual players metabolic and nervous systems. High-tech training techniques could improve fitness and strength, cryotherapy and magnetic chambers could be used to reduce recovery times and allow players to train harder and more often. Bespoke supplements could offer a player the nutrients and energy they need to eliminate fatigue from depleted glycogen and keep them going for the whole 90 minutes. Improved training and diets will mean that players will run faster and further than today’s players while reducing injuries with gene therapy and the ability to monitor a player’s health. Controversial techniques such as stem cell banking and organ pets could allow players to have damaged skin, limbs or organs transplanted and regenerated in order to get them back to training as soon as possible. With this technology a broken leg could mean a player simply takes the next day off before coming back to training.

Soon fans might be able to buy a customised Arsenal football shirt and Nike football boots with the same technology as their favourite players, entirely customised to their needs.

The world is captivated by the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but something that has divided opinion is the instruments that have all but drowned out the crowds at every stadium. The lengthy horns are selling out at any shop that sells them and the droning noise once unique to South Africa is spreading like wildfire.

Despite being little more than cheap plastic moulded tubes, they are flying off shelves at ridiculous prices. If you fancy being part of the atmospheric drone but don’t fancy the price tag, there are other ways of creating that authentic vuvuzela tune.

If you are the handy type, you can make your own with a few simple household items at a fraction of the cost. The cheapest option would be to use 10 toilet roll tubes, an A4 sheet of thin card, some tin foil and plenty of duct tape.

Slice each lengthways and roll the first one in a thin conical shape with the smallest end around half the original circumference and secure with a strip of duct tape. Repeat this with each tube with a small expansion each time, attach them all together to they make long tapered conical tube, if you do it right, it should look just like one. With Fold the A4 sheet in on itself to create a large cone with an angle of around 45 degrees or more, cut out the centre to match then widest end of the toilet roll tubes. Secure to the tubes with tape and you’re good to go. You can protect it from the elements with more duct tape, tin foil or anything else lying around the house.

If you don’t want to attract attention by carrying around something so annoying, there is another way of making the noise; you will need a balloon and some hex nuts. Place several small hex nuts inside a balloon and blow it up to a decent size, tie off the end and begin to move the balloon in a circular motion to spin the nuts. The contact between the metal and the rubber will create a similar noise to the drone of the stadium but when everyone turns around to see who to punch, you look innocent!

There is no control over the production of Vuvuzelas and building your own wont infringe any copyrights, not quite the case if you try to sell knock off Umbro Speciali boots or fake Liverpool Football Shirts.

The group phase of the World Cup is over and boy oh boy were there a few unexpected results. It’s the first time both previous finalist were knocked out at the group stages. So what went down exactly?

My assumption is bad management on their side mixed with perhaps a little over confidence. However we cannot overlook the reality that this whole World Cup generally has produced more than a few surprises.

The fact that the ball usually tends to end up in the stands most of time instead of in the net and with the exception of a few fixtures most of the matches ended in draws or low scoring results, the question is has the Jabulani ball thrown a wrench into the cogs to World Cup soccer?

Several players and goalies have complained that the ball swerves awkwardly and its movement is erratic. Apparently not as heavy as most other footballs it could be the reason why this particular World Cup is so difficult to predict. Just ask Robert Green.

So between the Vuvuzelas, The Jabulani and all the upsets I can’t wait for the knock out stages. One thing I will say however is the fact that this world cup is so much more interesting than previous ones. The fever has spread to even those who wouldn’t normally like football and even Youtube has added a button that mimics the Vuvuzela noise.
