It is quite an honour for the team, as Umbro are the current kit suppliers to numerous international teams. They design, source and market sports-related apparel, footwear and other equipment which is also retailed in sports shops. The new shirt is expected to be used only for Molde’s 100th Anniversary match next year. However, the club is still awaiting league approval to wear the retro-inspired jersey for the commemorative match. The retro kit is based on the oldest existing photographs in the club history from 1914. The club was founded on 19th June 1911 making it one of the oldest European clubs.

Prototypes of the shirt show that it will be blue and white striped with a polo neck. This will be fastened at the top with white lace as it would have been nearly 100 years ago. The Umbro logo is clearly displayed on the top right hand side of the shirt, along with the clubs crest on the opposite side.

The new kit comes soon after the announced signing of former Manchester United and Molde FK striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of the team. Solskjaer played for Molde from 1994-1996 before joining United. He said “I’ve been away (from Norway) for fourteen and a half years and felt it was time to go home” and that he had conversations with Sir Alex Ferguson who encouraged him that it was a good step to take.

As the strip will only be worn once we will have to wait to see the match kit for Molde’s 100th season. The team are currently in the Tippeligaen (the Norwegian top division) and have a great track record of wins in the Norwegian Premier League and Football Cup.
