Football is a sport that is a shared interest of many people. It is fun to watch, full of energy and excitement. You probably have come across people you are into fantasy football.

Having your own fantasy football league can be fun mainly because you’re the boss! You get to control your league. You can hire or fire anyone and can make it whole lots fun you. Let’s see how to indulge in fantasy football.

First you have to find a league or make your own privately. Search the internet and you will come across many websites that will help you with scoring and the rules. Guidance of such sort could be purchasable.

A little research may help you out here. You can find information regarding the players in many web pages and magazines so read up so you can have an idea how a player is foreseen to perform in the next season.

Make sure you understand the rules absolutely because you have to start drafting for your team. Along with the players that you have in your team you can also have players as a fall back plan in case something goes wrong with any of your team players. In fact you can also trade your players.

Consider the challengers of your players and each week figure out which of the players would start the game. This can help you in making the strategy and plan better if there is an important competition or match coming up.

Following the settled rules, you should do the scoring by the end of each week which would be determined by the player’s tackles or sacks etc. Players on the bench play as substitutes so keep a look at their scoring too

By the end the team that gets the maximum points would win. A better combination and thoughtful decisions can make you a winner too.

Once you have returned home after a tiring day at school, do you feel like engaging in any type of sports? Most of us would prefer engaging in activities such as watching TV, or using the computer rather than playing sports.

There are numerous advantages of playing sports, whether you are a regular sportsperson or just play a couple of times in a month.

The first and most important reason why one should play sports is that, it is essential for the body to get some exercise in order to grow at a normal rate. Moreover, sports help in keeping the body fit and healthy, which also makes one look good and physically attractive.

Now comes the part of deciding for which sport you want to continue with. Just consider the sport that you seem to like the best and register yourself for that it in a sports club. Then you can get hold of the required equipment and get started.

Last Saturday, the greatest sporting event in the world kicked off. No, I’m not talking about any strictly American sport, nor am I talking about MMA, basketball, or baseball, cricket, or any other sporting event that immediately comes to mind. Am I talking about the UEFA Champions’ League, the soccer glamour competition that ESPN and Fox Sports have created into a pretty common event in America? The answer remains no.

This is the FA Cup, a one of a kind tournament, the likes of which can’t be compared to anything that takes place in the US. This is a massive tournament that allows soccer teams of all sizes to compete equally against one another for a chance at glory.

But what makes this event so special and so deserving of your time? The simple fact that it is so large and so unpredictable and that literally anything can happen in any round between any two teams. 762 teams compete for the FA Cup through 14 different rounds (six qualifying rounds, six rounds of the FA Cup “proper,” along with the semifinal and the final, which will be held at Wembley Stadium in London again this year). Any team in the top 9 levels of the English football pyramid (if we were to somehow, place this in the context of American football, it would essentially be like all American football teams from high school and above) can enter the tournament. All matches are single knock out, with the losing team going home and the winning team advancing. Through the 14 rounds of the FA Cup, literally anything can happen.

Huge teams like Manchester United compete against virtual unknowns. Think of a baseball team, not even a minor league team. A team that plays in some kind of regional league that you’ve never heard of. To put it into baseball terms, teams like these have chances to compete against teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, giving every English soccer club a fair chance at glory.

This is where legends are made. Take the Cup from 20 years ago, where Sutton United ousted Coventry City, a premier team. Sutton United wasn’t even a member of a league, akin to an amateur recreational team. Then there’s the 1975 contest, where amateur team Wimbledon FC ousted premier team Burnley and then went so far as a draw with the defending champs Lees in the third round.

The unpredictability, as shown in just some of the examples above, is what makes it so special. The fact that a team such as Chelsea traveled to Coventry City last year makes the event special. Could you imagine the Packers traveling to play an Arena Football League team? Literally every team has a chance, if they keep winning, to get a huge game like that at home. Once the teams take the field, anything can happen.

The best thing I can compare it to on an American level is March Madness, only over 10 times the size. Think about the way that the 16 seeds get a chance to play behemoths like UNC, and how exciting it is for them. This brings it all to a completely new level. The possibilities are endless.

To make it even better, this tournament lasts for 10 months per year. Everyone loves March Madness, and expresses their sadness once the two weeks end. This can’t even compare when you look at the length. Watch this wonderful event if you possibly can, you won’t regret it.

Over the years, there have been some incredible football movies. Football is a sport that requires teamwork, sacrifice and enormous dedication, and when a film can encompass all of these elements, and more, it usually results in a great and memorable movie.

Regardless of the emotion the film may cause you to elicit, here is what I feel to be the best football films in recent memory.

Any best of list would have to include 2009’s The Blind Side. Sandra Bullock may have won an Oscar, but the true hero in this story is no doubt is the left offensive tackle whom which the Tuohys housed. This is a must see film for the whole family.

I have nothing but fond memories of Varsity Blues, a coming of age comedy that exceeded most peoples expectations and somehow managed to leave its mark in the chronicles of football history movies. The West Canaan Coyotes left a lasting impression in my mind. Or maybe it was the whipped cream bikinis…

Going back in time, the 1974 version of The Longest Yard definitely makes my list. This movie starred Burt Reynolds in a role recently revised by Adam Sandler, the great QB Paul Crewe.

How could anyone make a list of the best football films and not include Rudy? This film is a classic. For anyone who ever thought they couldn’t accomplish their dreams, Rudy is the film for them. This is an incredible story about reaching your goals, no matter how hard the road may be.

Any Given Sunday, features one of the greatest movie speeches of all time in the now famous Al Pacino “Peace With Inches” speech. This movie also features an incredible cast, adding Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx and Dennis Quaid to name a few.

The aforementioned films are truly some of my favorites. There are others that are worth mentioning, but these films I remember more than any other football movies.

Sports films are incredibly fun to watch, as they are often based on true stories and provide a good balance of action, suspense, letdown and joy. While Hollywood churns out sequel after sequel, we rarely get a good sports film these days. That’s not to say there haven’t been some great ones, however.

The following are some of the greatest sports movies from the past decade.

When it comes to great movies about football from the last 2000-2009, one would be foolish not to include Disney’s Remember The Titans on their list. The true story of the first racially integrated football team stars Denzel Washington and the always great Will Patton.

It is just me or do football movies often end up being the best sports movies? 2009’s The Blind Side garnered serious acclaim, even getting an Oscar nominee for Best Picture of the Year. Sandra Bullock finally found the role that won her the Academy Award for Best Actress, and she deserved it.

What list of sports films from this past decade would be complete without mentioning The Wrestler. You can argue that professional wrestling is not a sport, but there is nothing fake or funny about the way the industry is portrayed in this film. This is an incredibly moving film and Mickey Rourke nails the part.

Million Dollar Baby is another film that definitely makes my list. This is an incredible film, directed by the great Clint Eastwood, which is the story of a female boxer who has nothing to lose (played by Hillary Swank) and a coach (Eastwood) who is reluctant to take her on. Amazing movie.

Another boxing film that is a great watch is Cinderella Man. Directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe and Rene Zelwegger, this film had Oscar potential written all over it. Unfortunately that was not the case, but this film, based on the boxer Jim Braddock is awesome.

So that’s that. Let’s see what the next decade has in store for us!

While the World Cup this year may end up being the most watched event in the history of television (estimates say 800 million people are watching), I have found the tournament so far disappointing. What happened to all the goals? Here are some theories.

I’ll preface this by saying I am a big soccer fan. I want the sport to thrive and hopefully it will catch on in the United States some day. It is just hard to watch when most of these games end with one goal scored.

A new ball, called the Jabulani, was introduced for this year’s World Cup. It is supposed to bend more unpredictably than previous balls, however maybe its possible that its hurting the players goal scoring opportunities more than it is helping it.

There’s no doubt that part of the “problem” is defenses have been playing very well. Communication on the defensive end has been improved for most teams.

Is it possible that the vuvuzelas, also known as the terrible noise making horns, are distracting the players? As an American watch the game, I know it is distracting me.

Since it is technically winter in South Africa right now, temperatures have dropped. Certain star players have been seen wearing long sleeved shirts and you can visibly see people exhaling air. Maybe the conditions aren’t what most of the players are used to.

There have been a few shining moments in the tournament so far, however. The United States and South Africa both showed up in their first games, tying the favorites England and Mexico, respectively.

Unfortunately for the host country, they most likely will not see the second round. At the time this article is written, South Africa will have to beat France by a considerable margin in order to keep their tournament hopes alive. At least the country is bringing in money.

One of my hobbies is playing fantasy sports leagues. I’ve playing for a while now and have fantasy teams in baseball, basketball and football. I’ve also tried other basic, sports based games.

I find this a very enjoyable hobby, and get a real buzz from managing my virtual team. Buying, selling, and being the boss gives me a lot of pleasure. I’ve always wanted to own a sports team and now I have 3, even if they aren’t real!

This is very rewarding, but rather addictive. As I am in 3 leagues, I seem to spend a helluva lot of time refreshing pages and checking league positions and games stats.

I’ve even watched matches that I couldn’t care less about just to see how it will affect my teams’ placings. I will also follow games for the same reason. There are some that actually wonder if it is harmless considering how addicted some players get.

A true sports fan loves a good competition where things are nip and tuck; it brings out our competitive nature. There are lots of positive things about playing these leagues, and like a real sport, they keep us occupied for the duration of the season.

I will admit to certain periods of obsession over how my players are performing and whether or not they have the best interests of the team at heart. This has often taken precedence over the actual results.

It’s my worst nightmare when my virtual teams are scheduled to play at the same time as my virtual teams. My long term loyalty to my real teams is being tested by those who aren’t real. This is quite disturbing to be honest.

I’m only one of millions who play these leagues and know how addictive they are. There are obviously some issues to be addressed there have been some furious debates regarding these leagues.

In just several weeks, the end of the 00s will be behind us, and I’d like to take the time to look back at the decade that was, showcasing the best five NFL quarterbacks to have played football during these ten years.

My rankings factor in the overall performance over the last 10 years, rather than who may be better than who at present. Based on this, we’re going to remember what’s transpired in seasons past in determining who finished where on this list.

These are all a matter of opinion, and yours might be different from mine. If you feel that I’ve gotten this order wrong, I’d love to hear your reasoning.

Coming in at number five on my list is Kurt Warner, the veteran quarterback who is still going strong to this day. As the current leader of the Arizona Cardinals, he added a second Super Bowl appearance to his resume last season. Warner shows no signs of slowing down at this point.

Next up is Brett Favre. The veteran QB still looks great to this day, but his lack of a Super Bowl run prevents him from going any further here. Still, it’s hard to argue against the fact that Favre has been amazing.

Donovan McNabb. This QB took his team to the NFC conference championships 5 times during the decade. Enough said.

Tom Brady has been at the forefront of a Patriots dynasty during this decade, and his team has arguably been the most successful franchise of the last 20 years. His numbers have been exceptional and some more of his best days may still be ahead.

Peyton Manning. It was hard to justify putting Manning above Brady since Brady has more Super Bowls, but I think that Peyton’s been more consistent through the course of his career, albeit marginally. He’s truly one of the best to ever play, and just beats out Brady here.

The race is wide open in both conferences, but there are some very obvious front runners at the moment.

Let’s look at each conference and determine who the favorites may be. This is all in good fun, and I could very well be wrong about both predictions.

In the AFC, it would appear that there are a few clear contenders. First of all, the Pittsburgh Steelers have bounced back from a disappointing start, winners of 4 straight and now 5-2. They have Troy Polamalu back and the fact that they beat the Vikings shows that this team is strong.

There are also the surprising Denver Broncos, though no one is fully ready to take them seriously yet. Don’t forget about the Patriots either, playing some strong football.

While all of these teams have been great, no AFC team has been as strong as the Colts. An incredibly efficient offense has dominated its opponents, thanks to the steady hand of Peyton Manning. Until the Colts lose, they’re tops in the conference.

As far as the NFC is concerned, the major story in this conference is the New Orleans Saints. This team has what may be the best offense in all of football.

Many call Drew Brees the best quarterback in the NFL, and with good reason. His numbers are simply incredible, and the high powered offense in New Orleans has been virtually unstoppable to date.

Contenders to the Saints would be the Eagles, playing some great football themselves, and the Arizona Cardinals, coming off a big win in New York and winners of three straight games. The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are also obvious contenders as well, though their recent losses make the Saints the clear favorite thus far.

Fantasy Football’s Pleasant Surprises In 2009 http://www.footballfansworld.net/2009/10/the-best-fantasy-football-surprises/ http://www.footballfansworld.net/2009/10/the-best-fantasy-football-surprises/#comments Fri, 30 Oct 2009 21:20:25 +0000 Melissa Donnelly http://www.footballfansworld.net/2009/10/the-best-fantasy-football-surprises/ Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]> If you’ve been following football this year, you’ve likely been impressed with the many pleasant surprises we’ve seen in the fantasy football world so far. While it’s true that some of the players we expected a lot out of have done next to nothing so far, there are those players who had no expectations, yet they’re tearing things up in 2009.

Let’s give some respect to the guys who have gone above and beyond the call of duty so far. Having impressed just about everyone out there, here are three players we all wish we drafted when we had the opportunity to get them.

First of all, how about Pierre Garcon in Indy? Did anyone see this coming? I know that I didn’t, and while much of it has to do with the injury to Anthony Gonzalez, this guy is suddenly one of the best WRs in football.

Garcon has been magnificent in filling the void left by Anthony Gonzalez, and Peyton Manning seems to be building the chemistry between the two by the week. You wonder why the Colts are so good this year, and you have to acknowledge the fact that Garcon partly responsible.

Cedric Benson. So many people doubted Benson and his abilities going into the season. He had never averaged more than 4 yards per carry in his career, so there was good reason to think he couldn’t get it done.

Things are different when Carson Palmer’s your QB though. Benson has been great through the first several weeks of the 2009 football season.

Lastly, we have to look at the quarterback who seems to be ripping up defenses left and right. Matt Schaub has turned his offense into one of the most dangerous in all of football. He’s second in fantasy points to Peyton Manning, and that right there says it all. Can you believe that?

Few people could say that they did. As he’s the second best QB in football so far, no one saw that coming.
