Maybe half of the entire male population of the United States is into American football. That is, the kind that is played with a lot of running and carrying the ball instead of kicking it, and where holding the ball is generally a violation of the rules. Macho is the name of this game – with injuries as common as that air that both athletes and the rabid fans in the stands breathe, despite the helmets and thick paddings the athletes put on to protect themselves from cuts, bruises, contusions, fractures, and the like.
