Various Position And Skill Sets Of Soccer

Soccer or football is a game enjoyed and followed by millions of fans across the globe. Each has their favorite player, and there are many things about the game which made it as one of the top game in the world. Ball handling, positioning, set pieces, passing and shooting are some of the most important skill a soccer player should have.

Like any other game, there are specific skill set required for specific position in a soccer game, this article will talk about the function of various position and what skills are needed to play in that particular position.

Defenders

The most important thing about becoming a defender is to be physically strong and sure footed this is especially important when you’re playing against a strong striker. The main job of a defender is to pry the ball away from the striker and get rid the ball from your own area, and thus their primary skill that is needed is tackling. A skilled defender can tackle and win the ball without giving away a foul to the opposition team.

You will never lose a game if you have a strong defense line; some defenders are also known to have the ability to score for their team, especially from corners where their physical strength and height can give them the advantage of heading the ball.

Midfielders

Generally, you can find two different type of midfielder, one that is attacking minded and one that is defensive minded. An attacking minded mid fielder will the play maker of a team, creating opportunities for the strikers to score, and sometimes scoring themselves when the opportunity arise. Their primary skill is the ability to pass the ball, as well as having the vision to create openings for the team’s striker.

For defensive midfielders, their main job is to protect their defense line, and try to win the ball before it even reaches their defenders. As such, the important thing about being a defensive midfielder is the ability to intercept and cut the opposition’s play. They will be providing covers for their defenders, a good defensive midfielder can even pass as well as an attacking one, and as such they are also known for their passing abilities.

Forwards

The forwards like its name suggest, plays right at the top of the field in front of the opponent’s goal. Their main job is to put the ball into their opponent’s net, and therefore pace and acceleration is important, as well as the ability to shoot and head. Players in this area are also often some of the world’s most renowned football player, because frankly everybody enjoys watching forward score than to watch a beautiful defensive game.
