The Jabulani Jiggy

So France and Italy met in the final last World Cup and this year it looks like they will be meeting at the airport. The group phase of the World Cup is over and boy oh boy were there a few unexpected results. It’s the first time both previous finalist were knocked out at the group stages. So what went down exactly?

My assumption is bad management on their side mixed with perhaps a little over confidence. However we cannot overlook the reality that this whole World Cup generally has produced more than a few surprises.

The fact that the ball usually tends to end up in the stands most of time instead of in the net and with the exception of a few fixtures most of the matches ended in draws or low scoring results, the question is has the Jabulani ball thrown a wrench into the cogs to World Cup soccer?

Several players and goalies have complained that the ball swerves awkwardly and its movement is erratic. Apparently not as heavy as most other footballs it could be the reason why this particular World Cup is so difficult to predict. Just ask Robert Green.

So between the Vuvuzelas, The Jabulani and all the upsets I can’t wait for the knock out stages. One thing I will say however is the fact that this world cup is so much more interesting than previous ones. The fever has spread to even those who wouldn’t normally like football and even Youtube has added a button that mimics the Vuvuzela noise.
