6 Simple Tips For Looking After Goalkeeper Gloves

Goalkeeper gloves play such a important role in the outcome of almost every football match that they are worth looking after. If they are to do you proud and last for at least a whole season you need to really look after them and keep them clean. The dirtier they get the less affective they become as the sticky surface stops working so well.

This article discusses 6 simple tips for maintaining your gloves and keeping them in great condition.

I. Once you’ve finished playing, the first thing you should do is wash them under warm water to get rid of any dirt that may be on them.

II. As soon as you get home give them a thorough scrub under warm water and use some shampoo if you’ve got it. Only when the gloves return to their original colour can you be sure that all the dirt has been removed.

III. It’s important to clean the inside of the glove as well as the outside. The palm of the hand can get very sweaty in gloves, and if this isn’t washed out then it can become very smelly. Use cheap shampoo if the smell lingers, as I’ve found it to be as good if not better than more expensive varieties.

IV. Once the gloves are completely clean, run them under cold water to remove any suds or foam that may remain. Make sure any debris is removed from the Velcro straps otherwise they will become difficult to fasten.

V. Leave the goalkeepers gloves in a warmish room but away from direct sunlight to dry. Some keepers like to play in moist gloves so remove them from the light when they are at a suitable dampness.

VI. Once they are dry, store the gloves in a protective bag. This will prevent them from getting dirty by the next time you play in them.

Goalkeeper gloves are expensive with some styles over 100 so they are worth looking after. Out of all the above the most important thing to remember is to dry your gloves thoroughly after use, otherwise they will go mouldy and/or rot.
