Title Up For Grabs In English Premier League

The current title race for the English Premier League is perhaps the closest ever seen for over a decade. Fans have often had to endure the usual two horse race or another season dominated by Manchester United, with Chelsea and Arsenal only the two teams consistent enough to challenge them. The three usual suspects are once again involved this season, but with few signs indicating which of them have a greater advantage compared to the other two. The battle has now stoked public imagination with no one knowing which club will become champions in May.

It hardly looked to turn out this way in the early months. Chelsea stormed out of the starting blocks and were far ahead within the first few months. Such was their dominance that many observers were already penning them into the record books for being a rare team wrapping up the title way ahead of time.

Something then went very wrong as the London team fell apart gradually. While recent revelations about John Terry might have led to more disruptions, the problems definitely began sometime before Christmas. Chelsea’s huge lead at the top of the Premier League quickly dissipated as both Manchester United and then Arsenal closed in on them.

What has been most incredible about the race has been the form of Arsenal. The young Gunners team have been beaten soundly by both Chelsea and Manchester United in all four of their meetings this season. Other lesser teams would have let their heads drop with such demoralising results, but Arsenal continued to chip away at the distance between them and the other two title contenders.

The three teams are now more or less on the same footing in terms of points with Chelsea enjoying a tiny advantage having played a game less. The strain has been so great that the usually jovial Carlo Ancelotti can be seen sulking on the touchline while urging Chelsea on. Against teams they swept aside with ease at the start of the season, they now labour for favourable results and often do not get any. It might not be too long before Ancelotti is forced to bid farewell to his current club, if success does not come soon enough.

The situation has led to Manchester United and Arsenal waiting patiently in the wings, bidding to take over the mantle at the top of the Premier League. There is no doubt that the Old Trafford club are in the best position to take advantage. Their many title triumphs from the past have yielded several veterans in the team who are well equipped to deal with the pressures of a title race. Their only weakness is the dependency on Wayne Rooney for goals. If they can also pass their toughest test in the upcoming Man Utd vs Liverpool live streaming football clash, the momentum could build to an amazing crescendo.

Arsenal have faced the most number of obstacles amongst the three contenders. Major injuries continue to blight the team, with striker-in-chief Robin Van Persie out for the best part of the season. Captain and playmaker Cesc Fabregas has had a stop start season but still managed to contribute with goals and assists.

The title race is set to heat up with two months left to go in the English Premier League season. All three teams involved in its destiny are still wildly unpredictable and not one of them can afford many more mistakes. They have all taken turns to sit on top of the league over the past month and the climax to the season promises to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.
