The Washington Redskins haven’t started out their 09′ exactly how they anticipated. In fact, they are probably the most under achieving team in the NFL so far.
This loss might not have been the worst loss in franchise history, but it’s definitely right up there. There is no excuse in losing to the Lions really, the Washington Redskins have by far the more talented team — the most talented teams don’t always win — sometimes the team more prepared wins.
The Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles play competitive football nearly every year, and attempting to win that division is an extremely tall order for a team like Washington. For this reason, every game and every week matters to the fullest.
The Redskins have an interesting team in the sense that it’s considered well rounded. On the other hand, they have the weakest quarterback in the division in Jason Campbell (while he’s a good quarterback, he doesn’t compare to the likes of Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning, or Tony Romo).
The Redskins defense isn’t the best but not close to being the worst either – so the problem lies with the offense execution.
Their receivers (Santana Moss, Chris Cooley, etc.) are good, but not great. Maybe with a better QB, they would look great.
At 34 years old, LM London Fletcher is leading the defense in tackles. From 01′ – 08′, Fletcher started and played in every single game at his position never missing a game do to injury, remarkable really.
Given that head coach Jim Zorn played quarterback in the NFL before — one would assume Campbell would be further along in his development then he currently is. The Redskins are in a very tough division if you are a good team, if the Redskins keep playing like they have, a 6-10 season will be their destiny.
