New England Patriots Slow Start

The Patriots entered the 2009 NFL season as the hands-on favorite to win the AFC East. Having played some great football last season in the absence of Tom Brady, a team with Brady as its QB over Matt Cassel would be even better, right?

Many analysts have predicted a New England Patriots Super Bowl victory entering the season, as some new weapons in New England make the team even stronger in their minds than before. I guess time will tell.

Most notably, the additions of veteran running back Fred Taylor and prominent wide receiver Joey Galloway add some more depth to an already dangerous offense, and make the team that much more likely to put massive point totals on the board each week.

The New York Jets defense controlled the majority of the game and put Tom Brady off his game all day (New York Jets defense is one of the best in the NFL).

However, the Jets weren’t prepared to accept this fate and made a bold statement against Brady during their week 2 matchup. They essentially made Tom Brady look like a rookie quarterback looking to find his way.

The Patriots can move the chains in between the 20s but can’t seem to find the end zone as much as they are used to. It’s not as if the Patriots lack the weapons, as they have WR Randy Moss, WR Wes Welker, WR Benjamin Watson, WR Joey Galloway, and RB Fred Taylor. Chemistry is very important between wide receivers and quarterbacks obviously.

Brady was a comeback king during the team’s first matchup against the Bills, working his typical magic at the end of the game to will the team to victory. Week two showed a completely different side of Brady that no one had seen before.

Will the real Tom Brady please stand up? Perhaps we’ll see him during week 3. If not, there will be a ton of disappointed fans in New England.
