Chicago Bears Defense Takes A Step in the Wrong Direction

Hopes were very high for the Chicago Bears before the start of the 2009 season. They made a few big changes and pre-season was looking very good.

Jay Cutler is the first pro Bowl quarterback for the Bears in many ages – while the bears base their team on defense and running the ball, that mentality won’t get them a Super Bowl ring only.

Now with their franchise QB (hopefully for Bears fans’ sake) the Bears can score points on offense and compete in a division that is winnable for them.

The loss of Brian Urlacher was devastating to the Bears defense – he is the quarterback of the defense. With his loss, the rest of the Bears defense must raise their game to a whole new level if they expect to compete for a division title.

The Minnesota Vikings might be the favorite to come out of the NFC North – the Bears have a chance to be there as well at the end of the season. With the exception of facing the Detroit Lions, every game the Bears play against the Vikings and Green Bay Packers should be well contested.

On top of this was the injury of Pro Bowl defender Brian Uhrlacher, injured for the entire 2009 season. This is a crippling blow to the Bears.

Jay Cutler may be the missing piece the Bears need to finally raise the Super Bowl Trophy – first since’86. Jay Cutler isn’t a “one man band” other teammates must help Cutler so he isn’t trying to do everything himself.

This was a nice way for the team to redeem itself, and the Bears suddenly have a clean slate going forward.
