Disappointment for the Green Bay Packers in Week Two

With a disappointing season in 08′, 6-10, behind the Green Bay Packers, the team looks to be a contender in the NFC North Division. They’re strong on both sides of the ball and have a young QB that can take this team to the next level.

Aaron Rodgers continues to improve, and is legitimately one of the best quarterbacks in football. Greg Jennings is one of the best receivers in football, and veteran wide receiver Donald Driver isn’t such a bad option at the position himself.

After a week one victory against a Bears team that has been hyped by many, the prospects for the Packers were good ones. The Bears have high expectations, especially after picking up Jay Cutler.

The NFC is really up for grabs and it would surprise a few if the Packers did go that far. The Packers will have to contend with the favored Minnesota Vikings and a “game” Chicago Bears team with Jay Cutler — who will not be easy to beat.

Regardless, it seems like a lot of the hype may have been a bit premature and unwarranted. The Packers lost a very disappointing game to the Cincinnati Bengals at home in their second game of the season.

The Packers have as good as a chance as any team to contend in the NFC in 09′ – there are no dominant teams in this league and a team that gets on a hot streak can run the table. The Packers can definitely be the team to hit that hot streak.

If the Packers think they can contend they must beat the Tampa Bays Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and Cleveland Browns of the league. The good teams must beat the bad teams in the league in order to keep pace with the other good teams in their division – Packers must not play down to their lesser opponents.

The Green Bay defense was weak too. The team has a chance to secure what should be an easy win with a visit to St. Louis against the Rams next week. If they can’t win this, they have good reason to worry about their season.
